About Dave
I grew up in Southern California attending private and college prep schools, a rigorous environment that provided valuable educational discipline, but did not nurture my creative nature. In 1973 serendipity led me into the Fine Arts Department at California State University at Long Beach where I immersed myself in Drawing, Painting, Sculpture and Furniture Design. I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Art in 1979 and moved to the Snoqualmie Valley in 1980 where I continue to reside.
In the Northwest I pursued a career as a furniture maker and designer and fulfilled a lifelong dream of building my own home in the countryside. In the late 1980's my life collapsed amidst a series of losses that seemed insurmountable, but once again serendipity delivered me into the healing environments of countless people of wisdom, who ignited within me a renewed sense of purpose and potential. That journey of self discovery culminated in a career change and acceptance into a graduate program in psychology.
I received a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University in 1993. My internships included Mental Health North in Seattle and work at Washington State's Juvenile Rehabilitation Center at Echo Glen. I completed a yearlong intensive with the Institute of Creative Development led by Seattle psychiatrist Dr. Charles Johnston, and continued on with the Institutes' think tank until 1995. I have been seeing clients in private practice since 1993.
I have an intense interest in the way our personal psychology shapes our environments, particularly the home environment, an interest developed from many years as an artist and designer. I am continuing work on a model of therapy that uses the home as a reflection of self and a means of self exploration.
My personal interests include the ongoing evolvement of my own home and gardens and my passionate enjoyment of art and antiques. I have added traveling with longtime friends to centers of spiritual importance around the world, which so far have included Peru, France, Central America and numerous visits to Japan.
